Privacy Policy
Russell Family Media, LLC — Last updated: July 1, 2026
1. Introduction
StoryTime Reader is an iOS and iPadOS application that allows parents and grandparents to read illustrated storybooks with children or grandchildren over a live, synchronized video call. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy. Children do not create their own accounts. All accounts are created and managed by Adult Users.2. Information we collect
Account information: first name, nickname, and email address
Child profile information: a child's first name or nickname, entered by the Adult User
Invitation information: the email address of a parent or guardian invited to link a child's device
Device push notification tokens, used to deliver session invitations and identify linked devices
Session information: which storybook was read, page-turn events, presence status, and session timestamps, used to synchronize reading sessions between devices
Usage data: the duration of each reading session, used to calculate monthly minutes against your subscription limit
Basic technical data such as app version, device type, and OS version, used for troubleshooting
During a reading session, live video and audio are transmitted between devices using Stream Video's real-time infrastructure. Video and audio are not recorded or stored by StoryTime Reader.
We do not require children to create accounts or provide personal information directly. We do not collect precise location data. We do not serve advertising or sell personal information.3. How we use your information
To create and manage Adult User accounts and child profiles
To link a child's device to the correct Adult User account via invitation
To synchronize storybook pages and presence status between devices in real time
To establish secure, authenticated live video and audio sessions
To send push notifications when a reading session is started
To track usage against monthly subscription limits
To send account-related emails such as email verification and password reset messages
To maintain, secure, and improve the app4. Third-party services
StoryTime Reader relies on the following third-party providers:
Firebase (Google): authentication, database, cloud functions, and push notifications
Stream Video: live video and audio calling infrastructure. Stream issues short-lived tokens generated by our backend; Stream credentials are never stored on user devices
Apple: app distribution, in-app purchases, and subscription billing
These providers may process data in the United States or other countries under their own privacy commitments.5. Children's privacy
StoryTime Reader is operated and controlled by Adult Users. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Children cannot create accounts, communicate with strangers, or access the app without an Adult User first creating a profile and linking a device. The only information stored about a child is the first name or nickname entered by the Adult User and a device token used to deliver session invitations. Adult Users can edit or delete a child profile at any time.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information beyond what is described in this policy, please contact us at [email protected] so we can remove it.6. Data sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share information only:
With the third-party service providers listed above, solely to provide the app's functionality
Between linked family accounts — an Adult User's nickname and selected storybook are visible to the linked child's device as part of the normal reading session
If required to comply with a legal obligation or valid legal request
In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy continuing to apply7. Data retention
Account information is retained for as long as the account remains active
Child profile information is retained until the Adult User deletes the profile
Pending linking invitations expire automatically after 30 days
Usage minutes reset at the start of each billing period
Live video and audio are not recorded or retained8. Your choices and rights
Access and update: Adult Users can view and edit account and child profile information from within the app
Delete: Adult Users can delete their account entirely from Account Settings, which permanently removes their profile, children's records, and usage data
Device unlinking: Adult Users can unlink a child's device at any time from Manage Children
Notifications: push notifications can be disabled in iOS Settings
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].9. Data security
We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit, Firebase Authentication for account security, and short-lived authentication tokens for video sessions so no permanent credentials are stored on user devices.10. Contact us
